Graduate Students Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence for Academic Purposes: A Survey

Generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools are transforming our lives. They influence how we learn, work, and receive services. Healthcare education is not immune to the influence as students and educators have started using generative AI tools in their teaching and learning processes. A survey was conducted to understand how and for what academic purposes students of health professions education use generative AI tools. In this presentation, we shared the findings of the survey. Students of health professions have a favorable attitude toward the use of generative AI tools for academic purposes and most used them for brainstorming ideas, understanding concepts, and writing assignments. Students expressed the need for more education and clear guidelines from educational institutions regarding appropriate AI use. The implications of the findings for universities and educators were discussed.
