Research interests
Dr. Geetha Radhakrishnan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and is a Hospitalist in the Pediatric Hospital Medicine division at Galveston campus. Dr. Radhakrishnan received her medical degree at Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute in Chennai, India. She completed her pediatric residency and served as Chief Resident at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. Dr. Radhakrishnan completed a fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in Houston, Texas. She is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in General Pediatrics and is a licensed physician by the Texas Medical Board.
In addition to providing high quality care to hospitalized patients, Dr. Radhakrishnan has a vested interest in resident and medical student education. At the John Sealy School of Medicine, she serves as Co-director for the Doctoring and Clinical Skills (DoCS) pre-clinical course and is a small group facilitator for year 1 students. Dr. Radhakrishnan is also active in resident education as a member of the Graduate Medical Education Committee and as a pediatric resident advisor and research mentor.
Dr. Radhakrishnan’s primary research interest is the study of cardiac pathophysiology after burn injury, collaborating with investigators in the UTMB Department of Surgery to explore the mechanisms of cardiac dysfunction. She has several publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at local and national conferences. She uses her expertise in hemodynamics, cardiac pathophysiology and interpretation of echocardiograms to study the effect of burn injury on overall cardiac function to help advance the care of these patients.
Dr. Radhakrishnan is an advocate for patient safety and is involved in multiple institutional quality improvement initiatives. Using a family-centered, evidence-based approach, she strives to refine and implement best practices to improve the care of pediatric patients.
