Structural and functional studies of alphavirus receptors

The UTMB team will participate in all 5 years of the project. EEEV, WEEV, and SFV replication curves in multiple cell lines will be performed. Survival studies in infected mice treated with receptor agonists will also be performed. In addition to survival, a limited number of mice per group will be sacrificed at key time points for histopathology (i.e., viral antigen or viral RNA staining of spinal cord tissue and brain).
