Viability of Propagated Bacteria in a Ex Vivo Wound Infection Model

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

The purpose of this effort is to determine if the bacteria that is propagated into tissue by high pressure pulsatile lavage with a povidone-iodine irrigation solution (BD Surgiphorâ„¢) is viable. We hypothesize that the bacteria that is propagated into the skeletal muscle by irrigation with povidone-iodine irrigation will not be viable. Skeletal muscle harvested from cadaveric sheep or pigs from IACUC-approved studies will be used. The tissue will be contaminated with bacteria and irrigated with the Material high and low pressure lavage.
