Abstract

Background: IFITM1 differentially inhibits viral entry. Results: IFITM1 associates with AP-3; mutation of the C-terminal KRXX motif of IFITM1 results in loss of AP-3 interaction yet increases viral entry. Conclusion: KRXX is a potential sorting motif targeting IFITM1 to lysosome. Significance: Our results provide new insight into the mechanism of IFITM1 restriction of viral infection.
