Abstract
Children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) display symptoms of inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity across multiple situations causing significant impairments in family and peer relationships, academic functioning, and emotional well-being. This chapter begins with an overview of the core symptoms and current diagnostic features of the disorder, describes its prevalence and epidemiology, impairments to daily life, comorbid disorders, and developmental course. The next sections review various psychosocial treatments and empirical findings related to their effectiveness, including behavior contingency management, summer treatment programs, and technology-based attention training programs. The chapter concludes with a summary of which interventions are the most extensively supported and lists available evidence-based treatments for ADHD.
