Abstract

Advances in medical care for the burn survivor have significantly increased over the years, and with that, the importance of burn rehabilitation has become critical in the burn patient’s continuum of care. Occupational and physical therapists, or the collective burn rehabilitation therapists, are integral in all phases, whether a patient was admitted to a burn unit and progressed to outpatient care, or if a patient was only seen in an outpatient setting. Burn care or rehabilitation at any level or phase of recovery can be overwhelming to the non-burn specialist. In this chapter, we aim to provide education and practical approaches to burn rehabilitation for the non-burn specialist. Whichever discipline you identify with, the goal of burn rehabilitation remains constant, helping a burn survivor return to a productive, meaningful, independent life.
