Abstract

Sudden infant death syndrome is the number one cause of postneonatal mortality today. The pathogenesis of the syndrome remains somewhat elusive although there are definable risk factors associated with the syndrome. In this article, we review the current literature describing the epidemiology, risk factors, theories, and progress in research investigating the pathogenesis of sudden infant death syndrome.
