Abstract
In theory, excess ingestion of ethyl alcohol may alter normal porphyrin metabolism through liver damage. A hairless guinea pig model was used to test this hypothesis. Although the initial experimental results were inconclusive, this novel animal model may prove useful for future research about the possible role of ethyl alcohol in phototoxicity and sunburn.
