Abstract
This chapter examines the underrepresentation of minorities in medicine in Academic Health Centers. Historical and systemic obstacles towards greater representation of underrepresented minorities in medicine (URMMs) are introduced and analyzed. The authors then present current transformations in the recruitment and advancement process of URMMs. The authors conclude by providing specific examples and models of practice to improve the representation of URMMs in Academic Health Centers to transform the paradigm of clinical care delivery to be more inclusive of the needs of diverse patient populations.
