Abstract
Health professionals exist in a special relationship with society (Abbott & Meerabeau, 2020). In recognition of the knowledge and skill exercised, health professionals are afforded special status that is protected; in return they provide service to society and individuals in a manner that meets ethical and practice standards. Midwives play a vital role in supporting people babies through the journey of pregnancy, birth, and postnatal care. During this time, people need to be able to trust midwives to support them in their decision making and further their own and their fetus’ wellbeing. As students, one of the first things we learn and then later have to navigate in the transition to practice is the ethical standards of the profession and how these are applied.
