Abstract

The field of interventional radiology has been revolutionizing modern medicine for more than a half century, ever since the moment Dr. Charles Dotter ignored a surgeon's warning to “VISUALIZE BUT DO NOT TRY TO FIX!!!” a request on a femoral angiogram. In the decades since, interventional radiology has expanded its reach into the diagnosis and treatment of diseases from head to toe, using minimally invasive techniques to reach some of the most inaccessible areas of the body. This chapter looks at the near future of interventional radiology, highlighting a few methods and procedures that are likely to impact medicine in the years to come.
