Abstract
This article reviews the fundamentals of the use of sound and ultrasound in imaging modalities, including understanding the formed image and various scanning techniques. Specifically reviewed is the emergency physicians' use of ultrasonography as an interactive technique that changes with the specific conditions and complaints of the emergency patient.
