Abstract

Purpose of Review: This review summarizes current evidence of common and emerging fungal infections among the U.S.-based incarcerated population. The clinical presentations, available diagnostics, therapeutic approaches, and preventative measures are discussed. Recent Findings: There are fungal infections well-documented in correctional facilities such as coccidiomycosis however there is a paucity of literature on many commonly encountered and emerging fungal infections in correctional facilities. Summary: Correctional settings provide unique management challenges. Mitigation and management strategies are available for some niche fungi; however, more research on effective prevention and treatment strategies for these infections among incarcerated populations is needed.
