Abstract

Environmental pollution poses significant threats to plant ecosystems, impacting their genetic makeup and function. This study examines the detrimental effects of environmental pollutants on plant genetics, as well as mitigation strategies for sustainable environmental management. The introduction provides an overview of environmental pollution and emphasizes the importance of understanding genetic responses in plants. The genetic makeup of plants, including genome structure and variability, is discussed to elucidate mechanisms of genetic damage induced by pollutants. Environmental pollutants, their sources, and mechanisms of genetic damage, including direct DNA damage, indirect effects on gene expression, and epigenetic modifications, are examined. Case studies highlight the genetic impact of heavy metals, pesticides, herbicides, and air pollution on plant populations. Adaptation and evolutionary responses of plants to chronic pollution exposure are explored, along with future research directions and challenges. Mitigation and management strategies, including genetic engineering approaches, environmental remediation techniques, and policy considerations, are proposed to address pollution impacts. The conclusion summarizes key findings, underscores the importance of addressing genetic impact in plant environmental biology, and emphasizes the need for interdisciplinary research and collaboration. This study contributes to the understanding of plant responses to environmental stressors and provides insights for promoting environmental sustainability.
