Abstract
Owing to the frequent occurrence of orthostatic hypotension, ventilatory (respiratory) depression, the DPT/lytic cocktail combination of drugs is no longer recommended. This article reviews the goals of anesthetic premedication in children, physiologic considerations in pediatric premedication, toxicities of certain premedication drug regimens, and alternatives to the use of DPT/lytic cocktail.
