Mass spectrometric research of chiral liquid crystals of ester family

Two series of chiral compounds, esters of (+)-p-2-methylbutyloxy-phenyl-p-alkyloxy- benzoic acid and esters of (+)-p-alkloxy-phenyl- p-2-methylbutyloxy benzoic acid were determinated with electron impact mass spectrometry. The mechanism of their fragmentation is discussed. A commercial chiral liquid crystal mixture is satisfactorily analyzed by using field desorption/mass spectrometry and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. Samples of senies I and II were supplied from dept. of chemistry this Univ. The chiral liquid crystals were supplied from Tsin Duo Liquid crystals and Association company. M-80 gas chromato graphic mass spectrum was used in analyses.
