Abstract

M22™ is a modular multi-application platform (Lumenis, Santa Clara, CA) that combines universal intense pulsed light (IPL), multi-spot Nd:YAG, ResurFX™, and Q-switched Nd:YAG. The Nd:YAG and intense pulsed light components of the M22™ have been utilized in the treatment of hypertrophic scars and keloids. M22™ is utilized at Shriners Hospital for Children in Galveston, using the intense pulse light function, for the treatment of immature and pruritic hypertrophic burn scars. A picture of the M22™ utilized at Shriners Hospital for Children in Galveston can be seen in Fig. 1. Its use as well as the use of intense pulsed light and Nd:YAG in the treatment of hypertrophic burn scars and keloids as described in the literature will be reviewed in detail in this chapter.
