Abstract
Laser repair of severed sciatic nerves of Wistar rats has been studied as an alternative to suture techniques. The role of an excimer laser to precisely cut the damage ends of the nerve before rejoining the nerve ends by welding with a CO2 laser is discussed. In addition, preliminary work on a monitoring diagnostic for the repair procedure based on excimer laser-induced fluorescence is reported.
