Abstract
Nurse practitioners are an integral member of the interdisciplinary health care team. Their integration into hospitals and health systems is common practice; however, primary care–trained nurse practitioners working in the inpatient setting pose a unique challenge for the nurse administrator. This article presents a description of nurse practitioner scope of practice as it relates to the inpatient setting and an experiential framework that the nurse administrator may use to navigate this challenge.
