Abstract
The systematic adoption and implementation of evidence-based practice (EBP) principles have resulted in significant advances in improving the quality of healthcare and patient outcomes (Li, Cao, and Zhu 2019). Nurses practice in all healthcare settings and make up the most significant number of health professionals. As such, nurses play a crucial role in healthcare transformation as they drive and support the translation of evidence into practice. Because of their distinctive position and expertise at the bedside, nurses influence the provision and coordination of care, prevent adverse events, and optimize patient outcomes. Furthermore, nurses often play a critical role in generating questions about patient care and safety. Integration of the best evidence with clinical expertise and patient preferences is the basis of evidence-based practice, which allows health professionals to achieve optimal patient outcomes. The purpose of this chapter is to discuss the nurses’ role in evidence-based practice.
