Abstract

Management of pediatric burns can be a daunting task for burn specialists and non-burn specialists alike. While the basic principles of burn care are similar in adults and children, there are specific physiologic, psychologic, and technical details that vary substantially. There are also important anatomic differences, which one must be familiar with when providing early airway management, fluid resuscitation, and surgical planning. The objective of this chapter is to highlight specific practical components of burn care in the pediatric population.
