Receptor regulation: Impact on pharmacologic response

Research output: Contribution to journalReview articlepeer-review

Abstract

This article discusses aspects and examples of receptor regulation that could affect the pharmacologic action of medications commonly used during the perioperative period. Also included are some relatively recent data suggesting that receptor responses may be altered by surgery or anesthesia itself during the perioperative period. Much of the review concentrates on regulation of the β-adrenergic receptor system.
