Abstract

OVERVIEW Since late 2001, the United States military has been engaged in a series of conflicts known collectively as the Global War on Terror (GWOT). Medical capabilities have changed significantly since our last major conflict in the early 1970's, and the field of vascular surgery in particular has been radically altered, with improved imaging and a profusion of new endovascular devices. We will discuss how modern military vascular surgeons are now bringing the latest in endovascular technology to bear on horrifically injured troops in the field, very close to the point of injury.
