    Abstract

Work-related stress has reached epidemic proportions across all employment settings. In general, nurses face increased levels of stress and burnout. Moreover, nurse educators may experience even higher levels of stress than nurses who work strictly at the bedside. The increased likelihood of stress among nurse educators in higher education demands the identification and utilization of strategies that promote wellness and mitigate burnout. The purpose of this manuscript is to highlight the relationship between burnout and educators and identify strategies that promote well-being and reduce nurse educator burnout. An integrative review of the literature was conducted to highlight the ongoing relationship of burnout among nurse educators and identify effective evidence-based strategies to promote wellness and reduce nurse educator burnout. A balanced approach to nurse educator wellness includes the following themes: mindfulness and resilience training, workplace engagement opportunities, and work culture with leadership devoted to promoting wellness and preventing burnout.
