Abstract

OBJECTIVES: Currently in urogynecology, TVT and TOT are widely used procedures in the treatment of urinary incontinence. The comparison of these two methods to each other is somehow missing. In this article, we are presenting our case-group results, and review of the literature for identification of affectivity of each procedure. STUDY DESING: TVT and TOT applied to total 20 patients, which are prospectively randomized between March 2005 and July 2005 in two different institutions. The diagnosis confirmed with triple channel urodynamic testing for all patients, taken to the operating room with same two surgeons. Follow-up consisted of one-year post operatively. These two procedures were compared according to age, birth history, delivery mode, pre-operative distribution of symptoms, improvement of symptoms in post-operative complaints, and length of surgery. The t-test was used to detect differences between two groups of patients as well as Kruskall-Wallis. RESULTS: The mode delivery was evenly distributed by procedure type. Number of patients showing symptoms by type of procedure was not statistically significant. The length of surgery seems not to be statistically significant according to t-test. However, it shows borderline significance by using Kruskall-Wallis test (p=0.1062). Remaining characteristics examined were not significantly different. CONCLUSION: There is no difference among TVT and TOT according the success rate, but TOT seems to have lesser surgery time and has lower complication rate. Our case-group study agrees with current literature, and is the first study done in non-gynecologic cancer patient population.
