Abstract

A mathematical model is presented for the calculation of thermal response of gastrointestinal tissue to Nd-Yag laser irradiation. Predicted temperature rises and extent of thermal damage are compared to in vivo measured temperatures and histology of the induced thermal lesions. The effect of scattering of the beam on the deposition of heat in the tissue is considered by broadening the beam along its path in the tissue.
