Abstract

Angiopoietin-2 (Ang2) belongs to a novel family of angiogenic growth factors that also includes Ang-1, Ang-3 and Ang-4. Ang-2 binds to Tie2 receptors that are expressed on endothelial cells and inhibits Ang-1-induced receptor phosphorylation. Herein, we describe the effect of the Tie2 agonists Ang1 and Ang4, on Ang2 production by endothelial cells. We have shown that Ang1 and Ang4 inhibit Ang2 production in a PI3Kinase/Akt independent manner.
